Just wanted to start today's episode by sharing some of my recent fitness and wellness travel experiences. Back in January 20, 24. If you guys remember even listened to me for awhile, we were able to post all over social media Bubblehead Vacations all about me participating in that dopey challenge at Disney world. For those unfamiliar. Dopey challenge is part of the Walt Disney world marathon weekend. It involves running a 5k on a Thursday. 10 K on a Friday, half marathon on Saturday. And a full marathon and consecutive days. What's the full marathons on Sunday. Challenge is not for the faint of heart is physically demanding, but it's honestly pretty awesome to get through it. Last year, I was very active on social media. The Bubblehead: Like I said, sharing my [00:03:00] journey through the dopey challenge. It was an incredible experience, mainly because it was my first marathon. The support from all of you were outstanding. I love seeing your comments and encouragement along the way. However, the weather threw a curve ball to the whole weekend. Despite the forecast saying it wouldn't rain. The Bubblehead: It did rain. The Bubblehead: It ended up actually cutting that half marathon. In half to make it just another 10. K. And then additionally, during the marathon. The weather people had said, we'd gotten all that rain on Saturday. It wasn't going to rain on Sunday. I lived for a period of my life in central Florida. I know better than to believe. The Bubblehead: It's not going to rain. It rained. I didn't dress. Correctly, really? I didn't make sure I had the right socks and shoes on. The water soaked my feet. I ran through puddles as I was coming out of magic kingdom. Actually, it was funny. I came out of the Cinderella castle. Right down that pathway into this giant puddle, a lot of people did. The Bubblehead: It's just a, I didn't plan with dry socks and things to change in by about mile 10. [00:04:00] And at a marathon I had just giant blisters growing on my feet. I knew it. I felt it. And it just, Anyways, I got through it. It's fine. It's just a lesson learned on myself on how to do that. But that being said to add to the dopey challenge is. Like I talked about that half marathons got cut short due to the weather. Which meant I was robbed of the entire dopey experience, which I honestly have been trying to get to for a while. Which is why I was more determined that I've got to do it this upcoming January, 2025. Which I want to conquer because I have all the medals from last time. The Bubblehead: I just want to be able to earn all of them. In addition to my Disney runs, I've been staying active locally. I'm currently training for a 10 K in the local area here in Connecticut. I'm going to run the Seacoast half marathon in October. These events, keep me motivated, ensure I maintain a good base level of fitness throughout the year. The Bubblehead: Running into participating events. Not only helps me stay fit. But also a great way to explore new places and also meet a bunch of fellow [00:05:00] enthusiasts. Fitness travel has always been a part of something I've done it on most recent years. Last year on top of the dopey challenge, I also was down in Clermont, Florida and ran an Olympic triathlon. It was my first attempt at that distance. The Bubblehead: I'd done a bunch of sprint triathlons. I said I want to do an Olympic. I chose one in Florida because I thought there weren't going to be a lot of Hills. Boy was I fooled on that one? It was a great learning experience, but not being familiar with the bike course, which is really weird because they changed it from a non hilly. course to there was a really steep climb. It caused me a lot of problems in the race. Those experience did teach me a lot about preparation and perseverance. We started to share more tips and stories with you guys in today's episode about my own experience, traveling and running races and trying to do endurance things. The Bubblehead: And not only that, just trying to work out while you're traveling. Stay tuned to really hope you guys get something out of it. Did you can include in your travel plans, these activities are designed to help you stay fit. And promote. Overall wellness. While enjoying your vacation. [00:15:00] The first one, we're going to talk about yoga retreats. The Bubblehead: It's not something I'm intimately familiar with. However I have done yoga and try to use yoga. Attending classes. While I'm training. It helps with flexibility and balance. Which helps with my overall fitness, but yoga retreats are a popular choice for wellness travel. They offered a structure program. And includes yoga sessions, meditation, healthy meals. So top locations for yoga, which we talked about earlier is Bali. India and Thailand are also in the mix. The Bubblehead: For instance, yoga retreats in Bali often include daily yoga classes, meditation sessions. And workshops on wellness practices. Retreats are usually set in serene environments that allow you to immerse yourself in the experience fully. Imagine starting your day with a sunrise yoga session. Overlooking lush, Balinese or Thailand landscapes followed by a healthy breakfast. And some mindfulness activities to get you. Started in your day. The Bubblehead: Second thing we're going [00:16:00] to talk about is Retreats. For those who prefer some adventure consider one of these retreats. Which includes activities like hiking. Rock climbing and water sports. Places like Costa Rica and New Zealand are excellent for adventure retreats. The Bubblehead: These retreats often combined physical activities with wellness practices, such as yoga and meditation. For example, in Costa Rica, you can participate in a retreat that includes surfing lessons, jungle hikes, and yoga. All designed to boost your physical and mental wellbeing. Adventure retreats offer the perfect balance of adrenaline pumping activities and relaxation. Allows you to challenge yourself physically while also take your time to unwind and rejuvenate mentally. The Bubblehead: The third one is a spa and detox retreats. I have done. A couple of spa days. It does. Equal relaxation. If relaxation and detoxification are what you're after. Spa retreats offer, luxury treatments, detox programs in serene environments, destinations like Thailand and Italy are known for their world-class spa [00:17:00] retreats. These retreats often provide a variety of treatments, such as massages, facials, and body wraps. Using natural and locally sourced ingredients. The Bubblehead: For instance, the spa treatments. In Thailand often incorporate traditional thai massage techniques and herbal remedies. Relaxation in detoxification. Imagine spending your days, indulging and spa treatments, soaking your mineral rich bath, enjoying the diet of fresh detoxing. The Bubblehead: The fourth one we're going to talk about is fitness, bootcamps, fitness, boot camps provide intense workout programs and nutritional values. The Bubblehead: They're great for those looking to kickstart their fitness journey. Popular destinations include Spain and here in the good old USA. These bootcamps typically offer. a mix of cardio and strength training exercises along with nutritional advice and support. For example. Ultimate fitness holiday in Spain offers customized fitness programs include daily workout sessions. Nutritional coaching and outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking. These boot camps are designed to push you to your limits and help you achieve your fitness goals in a supportive [00:18:00] and motivating environment. Big thing. The Bubblehead: They try to focus on there. They try to give you a program that you can follow once you do leave the bootcamp. So there is some benefit into going to this boot camp. Start a new routine and it's like a shock into you. You're able to establish a routine and then they give you. A plan and honestly, some of these offer follow-up, so it's a good way to go. The Bubblehead: Number five is holistic healing retreats. Holistic healing retreats, focus on mind, body, and spirit. And all of that being interconnected. These retreats often offer a variety of healing practices, such as acupuncture, sound healing, and crystal therapy. We already talked about Tulum, Mexico, but that is a super popular destination. For holistic healing retreats. The Bubblehead: These retreats often use traditional healing practices with modern wellness techniques to create a comprehensive wellness experience. A lot of times, they're going to give you advice that you can walk away from the retreat with. For instance, you can participate in a retreat that includes sound healing, session, yoga classes, and holistic [00:19:00] therapies designed to promote balance and harmony. The goal is to leave you feeling rejuvenated and aligned with your inner self. And then also they give you some skills and things that you can take home with you to work on. That'll help you feel. A lot more interconnected. The Bubblehead: Some tips for integrating wellness, into travel. I will tell you, I. Have spent a lot of time traveling airplanes and whatnot. Some for work, some not for work. It's crucial. And I cannot explain the importance and it took me a long time to realize how important it is. for you to make sure that you have a fitness routine that you can integrate into your travel. Staying on schedule helps with jet lag. And keeps you energized. I'll be honest with you. The Bubblehead: When people ask me how I manage jet lag, I talk about how making myself get up and I'm really into running these days. Making sure I get that run in, helps me stay grounded. And in honestly I run in the morning. I find myself, if I don't run in the morning, I'm not going to do it if I don't set that time aside in the morning. The Bubblehead: So if I can get that. [00:20:00] Sunrise in when I'm running, it helps my body reset to whatever time zone I'm in. The Bubblehead: So I know the thing is you guys know we're big Disney world fans. I will tell you, theme park vacations, like Disney world. Require a ridiculous amount of fitness to go into those. If you want to get the most out of it there is a lot of walking involved. Make sure to research fitness facilities and local classes at the destinations you're going to and pack, travel friendly, fitness gear, like resistance bands or yoga mats. Apps and online fitness programs can also help you stay active on the go. The Bubblehead: Incorporating wellness into your travel plans. Doesn't have to be complicated. It's all about making minor manageable adjustments to ensure you maintain your health and fitness, wherever you go. I will tell you from experience. Most hotels these days have some kind of a fitness center. You can normally find an elliptical, a treadmill. Some kind of thing, even if it doesn't have weights, there'll be some kind of area where you can set some time aside and really get a good workout in. [00:21:00] And I will tell you, you will feel better for it. The Bubblehead: Just trying to get back into that time zone or that routine. The Bubblehead: So each of these activities or retreats offers unique opportunities to focus on fitness and wellness while traveling.
